It probably is more so than it looks - it's not like they've got to support their weight, they just wedge their shells in that position for a while.
How are they at climbing, Jilly? _________________ Leigh

Climbing? Crap.... I've found Titch on his back a few times (Darwin used to do that before he died ).
I think they were wedged in that corner as it was the first to get the sun, they look a lot more comfy now _________________ Older, wiser, slower |

Yes they are in a pen. It's an old donated rabbit run, with left over timber fence panels around it (so they can't see out). The hideaway is made from a free wooden wine box with roofing felt on the top. It is planted with pansies and various weeds I've pulled up from my walks.
So the cost to me - diddly squat

Hibernating is a total minefield - lofts are a no-no (possibility of fluctuating temperatures causing all sorts of problems). I didn't hibernate mine last year as they were at the lower end of the safe hiberating weight scale, we'll see this year but I doubt I'll hibernate the babbas.
Vivsa re considered bad homes for torts. Hard to achieve a range of temperatures, can get too humid and torts can get stressed and injuries as they don't understand the concept of glass and will try to get out. A proper indoor home is called (rather bizarrely I think) a tortoise table - here's a pic of mine, complete with UV light and heat lamp.
I did change the substrate from hemp (bad reviews) to topsoil. _________________ Older, wiser, slower |
