Update on my buns =Kikis Xray results=

Billie-Joe and Chester had their plums removed today and are recovering nicely in the kitchen   . No apprent problems there.

Meanwhile.... I took Kiki for a check up on her nose and it's not good   . The wound on her nose appeared to be getting better yet despite penicillin injections every other day for 6 months, it's got worse   . She's having it X-rayed next Friday and we'll decide what further treatment, if any, is to be done. The Vet discussed the options including recommending her to Bristol for invasive surgery but as the outcome of this is not guaranteed, I'm reluctant to put her through that as is my bunny savvy Vet. She's such a happy bunny in herself and belts round the garden when she's not terrorizing her boyfriends.... if you didn't see the scab on her nose, you'd think she was a perfectly healthy, happy bunny.

I got tearful in the Vets (again   ) when it was mentioned that she may not be a long lived bunny... so that's Kiki and Spike that I've been warned about the lack of longevity about       . Words can't express how I feel.

Good news on the deplumming

And i will keep everything crossed for your special Kiki X

Oh honey.

Glad the nadless wonders are doing well.

I wouldn't worry too much about Spike and Kiki not being long lived - they may well surprise you.  If you'd told me 6 months ago that Peri would still be with me now I'd have thought you were bonkers, but she's still going despite the epilepsy, gammy back legs and tumours (found a new one the other day).
FluffyBuffyWatwat

Also there's no way of predicting really with animals.
Jillyp

Valid points and my Vet is a glass half empty kind of guy/

Pleased to see Peri is doing so well.

Oh hun   I am so sorry. Kiki I know you will give her the rest of her days with lots of tlc and care. Invasive surgery isn't always the best. My chinese hamster has a large tumour on his lip bit surgery would mean removing half his face for him to die anyway so I am giving him the rest of his days happy and lots of tlc. I had a rabbit a while ago who only lived 18 months due to tooth root abcess it got way too much for her and the pus wouldn't go and the antibiotics weren't working and she was put down.
FluffyBuffyWatwat

Animals are also amazing things. I had a rat that lived for months with literally a hole in her face.  Also on her nose, possibly a very similar thing to Kiki has.
If you are continuing to treat it, I can't really see any reason she couldn't go on like that for a while.
You just can't tell. I mean I had a perfectly healthy rabbit, that just dropped dead, so the fact that you've been warned she might have a shorter life span than a normal rabbit don't mean much.
What is a normal life span? Both my girls died before the age of three.
Hmmmmmmmmm. Believe it or not that was s'posed to be comforting.
All I'm saying is don't get hung up on how long she might live, 'coz none of us now how long we'll have our pets for, just enjoy her while you can.

I suppose it's along the theory of you may get hit by a bus tomorrow.
Jillyp

The Xrays show that the bones in her nose are eroding due to the infection   . My Vet spoke to fellow experts at length and all agree that surgery would be highly invasive and experimental and that seeing as she's so happy in herself, none of them recommend surgery. So we're going for the managing it rather than treating it and he's ordered a different type of antibiotic that I can syringe into her rather than her have stress inducing injections every other day.

Fingers crossed please that we manage it sufficiently that she keeps her quality of life.

Meanwhile... the boys.....  have put them back in the bedroom this morning and they were binkying around like nutters   . Heard one squabble but nothing I'm concerned about.

Poor lil lady

She's lucky to have someone like you who goes to such great lengths to give her the best possible care and treatment

Will keep her in my thoughts X

Glad to hear the man bunnies are doing well
RattyHelen

Aww poor bun, you're doing your absolete best for her and I'm sure she loves you for it, hang in there, you're a brilliant mom
sarattie

awww poor kiki,  fingers crossed for her.

Linzi

Poor girl.  At least the other anti-b's should be less stressful for her and you never know they may work better on the infection.
FluffyBuffyWatwat

Poor lady. But she will get the best possible care.
My lads are going to hate me after Christmas 'coz nads go bye bye

They're supposed to get things for Christmas, not have things taken away!

My new boys are now nad-less   . Chester had started to assert himself and I really didn't want the bond to break. They seem to have settled down again now, my gorgeous pair of eunuchs
tigerbabe

Sorry it's not better news about Kiki

All my boys are nadless... Smudge & Jasper didn't seem to notice they'd gone when they were done
FluffyBuffyWatwat

I could get them done now, but I thought I'd put my dad's Christmas bonus to good use.
Jillyp

Kik thanks everyone for their well wishes

p.s. Nadless bunny boys rock
dogbertisgod

At least the new meds sound like she won't get as stressed with their administration, which will make her even happier! Besides, animals can be incredibly resilient (or bloody-minded) when they want to be, so here's hoping Kiki is as stubborn as they come!
