Sky HD (again!!!!!)Remember my 1st box was recalled as one of a faulty batch?
Well, i'd had problems with the 2nd box and a repairman came out and played with it a coupla months ago but i still had probs with it.
It's now being a complete *marrow* and altho it *works* (and i use the term very loosely indeed!) it's still playing up.
So, another repairman coming on thursday and if he can't fix the fault they're going to replace the box yet again
Third time lucky eh

Fills me with confidence as we're having Sky HD installed tomorrow.
And the only reason we're doing that is 'coz the warranty run out on the Sky + box and it's being a swine too.
What does yours do Sare?

It's actually a good system and you'll love it .. i was just unlucky
When it was last repaired i had problems with signal and crackling which he sorted but i'd had other probs at the same time like the box "freezing up"/"locking"
They said if there was any more probs to call back .. but hubby was trying to watch the backlog of progs from when he was away.
I'm still having major probs with LivePause , channels freezing up/ stalling and the box just switches itself off and refuses to come back on .. each time it takes longer to restart .. so i have a feeling it's a replace-the-box-type job
It's still under warranty so it's a free call-out and repair/replace anyway

That's pretty much what ours does too.
It freezes at least four times a day and you end up having to rewind to see what you missed, it will randomly turn off in the middle of programs and then refuse to turn on. It keeps going into 'searching for listings' mode and sometimes can take up to ten mins to do that.
And the most annoying thing is when you're watching a Sky plussed thing, and you fast forward the adverts, it will randomly take you back to the last place you fast forwarded from. So if you try to skip the second ad break, it will take you back to the first one. This is not so bad since we worked out how to fast forward at high speed, but still a pain in the bum.
And we had our other basic Sky box for 8 years with no probs. Modern technology.

Typical innit
2 boxes since Oct is a bit silly tho, but as long as it's faulty it's their responsibility and they're pretty good about coming out and sorting it so i can't fault their customer service or their engineers

Can I join the crappy Sky+ box club please? Mine is a temperamental beastie too. I seem to have to reboot the darn thing at least once a week and I only had to do the old box every few months (if that). Sometimes it freezes when I go from fast forward back to play, and then I have to rewind it back before the point it froze and play from there. I've had the odd problem with live pause too, only at the point where I'd caught up with the live version and then I couldn't get out of the paused bit without pressing stop, which lost the last 10 minutes of what I was watching. I get problems with the 'searching for listings' thing when I go into the TV guide pretty often too (that's when it gets rebooted). Gah.
The really annoying thing is that mine has now reached the end of it's warranty and the cheeky beggars are wanting between £84 and £100 quid to extend the warranty for the year! Their argument is that it would cost around £72 for a callout - hellooo, that's less than you want me to pay for the year, and I could probably get a brand new one for £150 to £200 depeding on the offers at the time.
Sounds like the more technology in the Sky box, the worse they get!

This is exactly why we decided to go with HD. £120 to extend the warranty or £79 for an HD box.
So I guess we should just assume that the boxes are rubbish.

Unfortunately I can't go HD as I've not got an HD ready tv (not downstairs anyway). And if I change my TV to a skinny one I'll have nowhere rat proof to put the Christmas tree (it sits on top of my huge old widescreen one).

We've had ours for the past 3 or 4 months and I have to be honest we've had no problems (touch wood) apart from the lazy *kumquat* engineer who put it in refusing to go on the small roof to put in another lead which meant we couldn't watch one programme while taping another for about 3 weeks. The second guy had no trouble at all with it and reported the first fella for being such a lazy git in the first place....hehehe

Totally miniscule in comparison, but when you try to go staright to the movies on the TV Guide bit, you just get an error message, saying there are no movies.

You're not gonna believe this, skyguy been out AGAIN!!
This time i have a new skydish
And there was a problem with my repair plan cover
BUT i had a very nice and helpful repairman who did everything right and tidied up after himself
This time, in fairness it wasn't the box ...... had signal problems so they sent out an engineer only to discover that some 'orrible little brat had knackered my dish by hitting it with a ball of some sort !!! Charming huh.

You really haven't had much luck with your Sky have you Sare? At least it sounds like the repair man knew what he was doing.
