Niamh is in the doghouse

While we were having tea last night, she lunged at Jon and grabbed a huge mouthfull of bacon and chips from his plate.  Her thieving's getting worse, but this was really bad.  Jon's absolutely livid with her; if he'd had his way she wouldn't have been fed last night.  We just don't know what else to do with her; she gets the food removed (if it's not already swallowed), scolded and sprayed, but she still does it.  Little madam.

Little madam.  Do you still have her crate?  Maybe you need to put her in it when you're eating?
Sare

No ideas .. but hope you get the situation under control soon

I would suggest locking her out the room when she's eating.
It's what we had to do with Sasha when she got really bad.
She's still a bloody nuisance but she won't steal when people are eating now.
Just stuff off the worksurfaces, in the bin, the bread bin, the cupboard etc.
Not feeding her is not the way to go, 'coz that will just make her hungry and more desperate.

can you feed her her food at the same time as you have dinner? or are you already doing that? - sorry if you are already doing that.

I would go with putting her else where - with her dinner?

its meant to be some pack thing that I can't remember now.

Oooh norty girl!! I'd definitely put her out whilst you're eating, but I'm no doggy expert. She'll have to learn that her place in the order of things is below you and Jon.

We've been told to absolutely not do that, as her having to wait for her food until after ours reinforces her lower pack status.  TBH, it wouldn't help, as she'd ignore her boring dry kibble if there was the slight possibility of anything else on offer.

There's a problem with locking her out as well, as Jon kicked the door in (the latch had stuck) and now the door only closes to, it doesn't catch.  And we haven't got enough room for the crate now; it's in the garage.

I suppose we could start sticking her back in the bathroom.

You may have no other choice hun, it sounds like she's way above her station and will have to be brought back down in the kindest possible way. I've no doubt she'll lay on the guilt trip with the huge eyes and floppy head routine but be strong! Could you get a chippie in to fix the door up in the mean time?

Locking her out will be the only way, 'coz eating up the table doesn't help. I know this.
