News on Poppy... *she's gone* *POST MORTEM RESULTS*

We took her to the vets today and it's not great news.
She's a very small step away from pneumonia

I can't believe she's so bad, her chest obviously sounded ok a week and a bit ago when she was vaccinated.

Can we have lots of vibes for my poor little girl please??
RattyHelen

Lots of vibes for Poppy       Get well soon girl
FluffyBuffyWatwat

Oh no.

The vibes seem to be working so keep them coming please

Her breathing didn't look any better this morning so we popped her back to the vets. He said her lungs are a bit less congested and he thinks she seems brighter in herself, her temperature is still a bit low but it's higher than it was yesterday.

Hopefully she'll keep improving
Jillyp

     Hoping for continued improvement.
Linzi

Hope she's ok.
tigerbabe

I had to take her back to the vets today. Her breathing is as laboured as it was on Friday and the vet said her lungs are really congested again. She's now down to 1.3kg... she was 1.5 on Friday

I had to leave her there so she could be put in an oxygen tent overnight, and she'll be sedated tomorrow for chest x-rays. The vet is concerned about sedating her because of how poorly she is, and he said it's not looking good for her
FluffyBuffyWatwat

I'm so sorry honey, I'll cross everything.
Dragonrat

Jillyp

Bless her, I hope she pulls through
Linzi

Really sorry she's taken a turn for the worse.   Hope she picks up.
Sare

Best wishes from here too X
tigerbabe

She didn't come round from the sedative

The vet said that he wouldn't have been surprised when I took her in but she'd picked up massively overnight, tucked into pellets and dried plantain as well as veg and sounded better. He's going to do a post mortem so hopefully we'll at least know why a bit later.

And to top it my dad was his usual self and 2 minutes after I got off the phone, moaned at me about spending any money on her and said I should have left her to die at home
I really don't like my dad sometimes

Linzi

Oh honey, I'm so sorry.
Dragonrat

So sorry, hun.
FluffyBuffyWatwat

Oh that's horrible of him.
And I'm so sorry about Poppy.

I doubt he meant the leave her to die bit as nastily as it sounds, he was saying animals always go somewhere to die and that's why she was squashing herself between the litter tray and shed. But it's the fact that he was moaning at me about it when I'd literally just found out she was gone... there's just no reason to do that to someone

I am glad that she was obviously feeling better last night though, it's just a shame she couldn't spend it with Harry cos she really did love him to bits.
Jillyp

Binky free at the Rainbow Bridge sweet Poppy.... pain free forever now.

 To you Kerry.
Sare

I'm so dreadfully sorry

Sleep Well Poppy X
tigerbabe

We've got the results of the post mortem back and apparently she had a large tumour in her lung which had started to spread and her lung had collapsed
The vet has sent a sample of it away as he'd like to know a bit more about it.

My poor little girl didn't stand a chance. She must have been suffering for a while and I didn't know anything was wrong
Jillyp

Don't feel bad Kerry, you wouldn't have had a clue as these gentle creatures hide their pain so well... the price they pay for being on so many animals menu   . You did so much more for her than the majority of people would have done - take care in the knowledge that she felt love

Aww Jill...thank you, you've just made me fill up
RattyHelen

Oh no! I'm really sorry

Run free Poppy
Dragonrat

That's very true what Jill said.  As a prey animal, they can't show their weaknesses outwardly, so how were you supposed to know.  Easier said than done, but try to stop beating yourself up about it.
Linzi

There's definitely no way you could have known.
sarattie

so sorry about Poppy.  Listen to the others, theres no way you could have known hun.
Ratmad

ditto to everything else already said xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
tigerbabe

The vet had the results back of the sample he sent away. He said it was a malignant tumour, and a very aggressive type.

Confirmation that you did all you possibly could have done (not that it was needed but you know what I mean)
