Legend of the SeekerThe SciFi channel's picked this up - it's the dramatisation of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, which I absolutely adore. Starts August 13th. Sword and sorcery goodness.

I'll have to watch out for that one then. Is it a full series or a mini series?

Full series, and they're doing a second one. That probably means I won't like it, as they cancel everything I like.

Know that feeling well!

I'll be watching !

Have to say I'm seriously not impressed so far and I don't think I'll be watching it again. I dunno how close it is to the books, but I'm not finding it has enough to keep me interested.

TBH I thought the trailers looked dire and didn't bother.

The best way I can describe it is like a version of Xena: Warrior Princess that actually takes itself seriously (i.e. without the camp humour!).

It's done by Sam Raini, so that's probably why.
The first episode was pretty close (aprt from a few glaring changes) but they've gone off-book since, really. And Kahlan isn't just a confessor, she's the bloody Mother Confessor, and the only one left after Darken Rahl killed the rest. And Zedd has been Richard's friend all along.
Zedd's way too young - should be a scrawny old man. Richard's too young, too, and he should be a big fit man, not the Peter Andre lookalike they've got. And the gar was wrong, too.
Better stop there before this gets away with me.

I'm sky-plussing this atm
Hubbys a huge fan of the books and quite liked the look of the trailers, i'll let you know what he thinks of it compared to the books once he gets around to watching it.

The books are excellent. He and David Gemmel tie for the title of best heroic fantasy author.

Sounds like you aren't overly impressed either then, Leigh? But I guess there's always likely to be a problem when something is taken from books, whether it's a film or a TV series.

I'm still watching, and I continue to gripe, but there's just not enough fantasy stuff around.
|
Sare
|
I've read some of the books, and i don't know what happened but a few books in it just suddenly seemed to change .. i went from enjoying the series to finding it really hard going.
I'll be giving the series a go, as Leigh said there just isn't enough fantasy stuff around atm.

So far i've seen *the making of ..* as well as the first 2 eps ..... seriously unimpressed!
|
Dragonrat

I've just finished re-reading Wizard's First Rule, and it's even more off base that I'd remembered.
|
Sare
|
Well it's improved slightly over the last couple of episodes but it's still not *good*.
The Darken Rahl character is so not as i expected him to be, and Richard looks too young.
Kahlan is annoying but i have to say Zed totally rules!!
|
Linzi
|
Yeah, Zed was the only character I thought was half decent too.
|
Dragonrat
|
But he is way too young. I just can't believe how much they've understated the Mother Confessor part.
|
Sare
|
*agrees on both counts*
I think they could have done better with this tbh.
The only reason i'm still watching is because of the lack of anything half decent on tv just now.

Quite. Which is why we're rewatching West Wing from the start.

Also, the Ra'da Han collar has to be put on voluntarily by the wearer.

Quite. Which is why we're rewatching West Wing from the start. |
And also why I'm rewatching Babylon 5 from the start too (now half way through series 2).

I'm still watching, anyone else?
Although it still varies quite a lot from the books ( and my main problem with Richard being too young still stands!) i'm actually finding it not as bad as i feared.
Basically it's half-decent escapism.
At least now Kahlan has come into her role as Mother Confessor so maybe she won't be quite as annoying now
|
Sare
|
You still watching this Leigh?
It has actually improved a bit recently .. the first few episodes made me cringe but as it's gone on i am half enjoying it
Did you recognise the guy who plays Darken Rahl ?
It took me a while to realise he's the guy who played Haldir in LOTR.

I am still watching it. Last week I mainly watched it while holding my hands clamped to my head, resisting the urge to shout 'Why?'. I know they can't keep everything the same, but Jensen doesn't come into it until book 7 ffs, and Richard knows nothing about the pristinely ungifted until then. Denna needs to die. Kahlan needs to get a character. And Richard is still wrong.

WTF was that?

Last night was the series end wasn't it ? Havent watched the eps yet, i'll be watching later so i'll prob have more of an idea what you're on about then

Indeed, now i TOTALLY get where you're coming from !!
I wish i bloody well knew where the programme was coming from though .. it was just so, oh i don't even have the words for it

Fair play, it was watchable. But why base something on a book/series if you're going to change and/or ignore so much?
