I think Tabitha is really illI think she has pyometra. she is ok in herself but occasionally she smells very bad, I had put it down to her teeth but since she has learned to chew actual chews she has been better on the teeth front.
Any how the pyometra idea comes from odd discharge I found (and smelt ) on her last night.
I think have seen it before, but had put it down to giving her too much apple- it looked like white poo and smelled terrible, she had never had apple before so I took her off veg for a few days and checked her every day - saw no more.
but last night she was very smelly and I immediately thought infection. the amazing thing is that she is fine in her self doesn't seem to be in pain and is eating and drinking normally.
apparently Pyometra is incurable. I have a vets appointment at 2.30.

thanks guys.
The vet was quite positive, said he didn't think it was pyometra she doesn't have a hard tummy. he suspects an infection and said I was to clean her once a day and keep her cage clean. he did say the infection could over take her and then there wouldn't be anything he could do.
She took her baytril very well and slept in the carrier whilst I boiled her cage. well pretty much.
Trouble is I rearranged everything, put her back but had made the hammock to high and her wheel wouldn't move. so I re arranged it all again and again but now I tihnk I have upset her cos she won't sleep in her house and is curled up behind her wheel. she refused treats as well. hopefully just her way of telling me to *leek* off.
her cage looks so boring.
send her vibes please.

Oh honey.
Well, it's good that the vet was positive.
I know nothing about hamsters, so am unable to offer advice.

she had a bit of a chew and a drink and a wander and then went to bed.

Hoping for the best for Tabitha
As for the cage rearranging .. i wouldn't worry too much, every hammy i've had has been stroppy when i've moved their cages around .. they don't like change
Unlike the rats of course, who get waaaayyy excited and poke their noses into everything after cageclean

thank you xxx
She took her meds twice yesterday and this morning and even let me clean her up (didnt look too bad actually). I can't believe how well she does it, fights a bit but once the syringe is in her mouth she just drinks it!
( unlike the rats.....)
she was quite perky when she EVENTUALLY woke up scared me for a bit absolute no movement until I dismantled the cage and her bed. she is the definition of docile tho.
One good thing, I fixed Willow's Rody wheel whilst I was cage boiling and she was so made up she ran and ran on it (she has a wodent wheel but is not so keen) and then curled up to sleep on it!
and everyone loved the scrambled egg! Tabitha ate all hers!

At least the vet was quite positive, she's taking her meds ok and has got over her strop. Hope the meds do the trick.
