In light of recent events we thought it might be a nice idea to explain exactly how the moderating team work, and on what criteria we base our decisions.
To be fair we rarely have to do much editing of post 'coz you lot are all lovely and do take into account that our one hard and fast rule here is to have respect for your fellow members.
For the most part our job consists of moving posts placed in the wrong forums and deleting duplicate posts.
However, occasionally someone will join the forum with the express purpose of creating trouble (who remembers Kitten. She was fun!) and then we actually have to make judgement calls.
Posts will be edited if we feel the poster has made a comment that could cause offense or distress to one or more members, or will inflame an already delicate situation.
These decisions are not based on the personal opinions of the moderators, we will NEVER remove or edit a post based on our own views. All moderations are impartial and in the best interests of the forum as a whole.
Often when we edit a post we will leave a comment in red. This is not to show up the poster or make an example of them, this is to explain why the post was moderated to the poster and the rest of the board.
We all have lives away from the board (yes we do!!!!) and we don't always have the time to PM and explain a decision. This way we can inform the poster and the rest of the members, so no-one is left wondering why the post was changed.
We will never edit a post as a form of personal attack, and no-one should ever take moderation as such. If you ever feel this is the case please feel free to PM the moderator responsible or myself about the issue, but please do not use that as an excuse to attack or harrass the moderating team.
We don't have set guidelines, we pretty much make it up as we go along and it's all down to judgement and often snap decisions. We can make mistakes, we are not perfect (well me and Sare are, but we're really humble about it!!!) and we will admit if we are wrong.
Any posts made with the sole intention of sparking arguments and winding up ANY member of the board will be immediately removed (this doesn't include posts trying to wind me up about Ian Watkins, tho such will earn the severe disapproval of the Boss Lady and as such should be avoided at all costs!!!) and a warning sent to the poster in question.
Likewise the repeated posting on issues that have previously been locked or edited will again result in a warning.
Persistant abuse of the forum in this manner will result in banning.
We have always tried not to impose too many rules, and make the forum the light-hearted fun arena it is now, but we have to have some boundries or choas rules.
We don't actually like moderating much, it's boring and we could be talking about other things (I don't really have to mention his name at this point do I? ) and we appreciate that you are truly a wonderful bunch of people that do make our lives easier.
