Biorb qu for Leigh... or anyone else that wants to chip in!!

Im looking for a small tropical tank for my kitchen to put in a few tetras or guppies.

I like the Biube but I am finding conflicting size guides on it.  Some places say 47.5 cm and others 46cm

our kitchen units are 46.6cm above the unit so any taller wouldnt fit, and even the 46cm would be tight.  but it would slide under.

Alternatively theres the baby biorb, thats quite a bit smaller and I dont know if its suitsable really being only 15l.

Do you have any ideas on mini tanks,  I dont really want a square/rectangular one as it would be a nice feature in the kitchen so im looking for  a round or wedge shaped one that would sit in the corner nicely....

any thoughts or ideas??

Personally, I loathe the Biorbs.  They're glorified goldfish bowl, and goldfish bowls should have been banned years ago.

The hexagonal tanks tend to look pretty good:

Single, double or triple (not glass, so easier to scratch):

We kept a double hex on the counter at the shop and kept allsorts in it over the years, from poison arrow frogs to seahorses and, rather disastrously, an octopus.

You can also get corner tanks, either straight or bow-fronted, both of which look nice.  Please avoid the 'picture' tanks like the plague.

aww gawds yes!  theyre awful

I thought there was soemthing about bowl shaped tanks, something like surface area etc and oxygen in the water,  but assumed seeing as these have taken off, that they must have been ok.

A corner one would be ideal, but finding one small enough to fit the worktop is a pain.  40cm h is my max really and about 32cm D

The hexagonal ones look quite good thiough........  goes to look more!

They're gimmicky, that's the only reason.  Lizzie, I know you've got one, and I know I'm sounding negative, but I do seriously hate the things.  They look pretty, but they're far from ideal from the fishes point of view.

im now thinking the 30l biorb.
It looks pretty sylish and Im only looking to keep a few tetras or guppies in there.
I cant find any wedge shaped ones and Im not so keen on the fish tankieness of the hexagonal ones.  though these might be better (and cheaper) its not really what im looking for....

hmmmmm

You know my views, so I'll keep quiet.

Leigh, whilst we are on the subject I need a new fish tank, my hex tank - whuch I don't particularly like - well the lights gone and it can't be replaced (  stupid freaking thing)

I want a corner tank, can you recommand one?

I can probably fit a 60cm bow front in the corner I am thinking of  any ideas?

Personally, I'd go for a tank/cabinet combo, but I'm old-fashioned.   There's a company in Basildon; I'll try and think opf the name. Clearseal have always been very reliable on the glass tank-only front.
JaneAustensRats

so would I - but its for the front room, Mum thinks a square "wouldn't look right" in the corner, so a bow front is a compromise, I keep reading things about hex tanks not being good for the fish. Not sure if a bow is any better but at least it has one corner !

thats kind of what i was looking for, but smaller, and without a cabinet.

Ideally Id go with the cabinet style as they have external filters, but we dont have anywhere for it.

Honey, you can get bow-front and corner tanks with proper cabinets.  I think the company in Basildon is called Seabray (it's on Burnt Mills ind est) - maybe you could ring them and ask for local suppliers.
